This intellectual autobiography is not just a chronology of the particulars of a great intellectual life. This is an excellent book for anyone involved in fluid mechanics or just interested in how fluids work. from University of Chicago, founder of the new and emerging area of artificial intelligence, cognitive psychologist, Cargegie-Mellon faculty member, Nobel laureate for economics (1978), and contributing philosopher of science - was no dilitante. I don't know that one can 'review' such a book the same way you can review a novel about pioneers or a non-fiction work about politics or hunting. That is the heart of this work, that she finds her way.. This is an excellent book for those who are considering life in academia on up through junior faculty. This book was read a number of years back while I was a student at the National Fire Academy in Maryland. She does manage to write in a way that the reader can almost put herself in the victim's shoes. Just as such a memoir of a survivor ought be. This book is designed to enhance the understanding of basic flow phenomena through over 200 high quality flow visualization photographs, some in colour, and explanations. Visualized Flow was compiled and edited under the guidance of the Japanese Society of Mechanical Engineers. Current and new visualization techniques are employed such that invisible flow, as in air and water, is made clearly visible and comprehensible. This English edition will be indispensable to engineers, researchers and students in understanding flow phenomena across the wide range of sciences wherever fluid flow is important.. The book opens with a summary of flow visualization methods, and then proceeds to present flow phenomena as revealed by various flow visualization techniques. The treatment ranges from fundamental aspects, such as laminar and turbulent flow, to engineeDavid L Book, US Naval Res Lab, Washington DC 20375, USA To paraphrase Bacon, some books are meant to be tasted, some chewed, some devoured-but this is one to be quaffed in a single delectable draught But it is remarkable how universal this little book is Unlike so many technical books published today, this on eis destined to be bought in substantial numbers by individuals Rather than libraries. It is that rare bird, a technical book suitable for purchase as a gift.Appl Mech Rev Vol 43 No 3
